I am a Taiwanese art worker based in New York. Prior to moving to New York to study interactive installations, I focused on documentary film and experimental video. Over the past 15 years, I have primarily worked in experimental art and technology, creating artwork for prestigious events such as the London Cultural Olympiad and Dubai World Expo, as well as participating in media art festivals.
My journey with glass began in 2018 when I started taking neon bending workshops with David Ablon at Brooklyn Glass. New to working with glass, I was captivated yet also felt somewhat perplexed by the material. I dedicated the next three years to mastering the fundamentals. Coming from a background in two-dimensional technology and videos, working with glass in three-dimensional space proved to be a humbling experience. Presently, I integrate neon and light sculptures with dance performances, experimental videos, prints, and ceramics.
During my time at the neon shop, I often found myself working next to the flame working station of artist, Goldie Poblador. I would watch her create intricate borosilicate sculptures that eloquently conveyed her ethnic identity and explored the concept of fertility. Observing her work ignited my curiosity about flameworking, prompting me to begin learning borosilicate glass. I am eager to further develop my work by incorporating both borosilicate glass and neon, creating pieces that experiment with assemblage and new media.
