I have had such bad luck lately with pieces I've sold to others getting broken. It's never a huge deal, they're all replaceable, and it's always a matter of an accident. One fell, one some store owners were horsing around and knocked it over, one had something dropped on it accidentally, another's transformer just died and needed replacement, and two were actually damaged in a larger building accident. I'm always expecting glass to break, but my luck this year seems terrible. Anyone have stories of their work breaking within a year or two of selling it?

Man, where do I start...

Ive had my work dropped as soon as someone walked out the door, one neon broke while my students were drilling a hole in the wall to hang it, one time I finished huge peice for a trade show and one day later it the fake wall the sign was installed onto was..."walked through" by a drunk man at the event, purses, brooms, painters buckets, folks walking around with the plug dragging on the floor, and even the innocent baseball cap thrown into the hamper have all killed my work before. It is part of the job and it can be exhausting. I just tell myself "everything is broken in the future" :P

This one hits home for me too!  I'm about to remake the address numbers for my house for the 4th time in 2 years.  We have a hickory tree, and the nuts bounce up with enough force to break the unit :(. I would mount it to plexiglass, but don't like the glare it creates.

To me, it feels like when it rains it pours. Sometimes we'll go months without any calls about broken neon, then all at once we'll get three in a week.

When we send glass out of our shop, we tell folks "treat it like it wants to break" and that usually helps them treat it gently. Usually. --

Olivia that's how I generally treat my own work these days, so makes sense! It's nice to hear this is the norm even though it drives me nuts sometimes...
